Our big news this week is that we have had our first English Tourist Board inspection from VisitEngland and we’re proud to say we achieved our target rating of 4-stars with a Gold Award accreditation.
For the self-catering star rating, the assessors work to strict criteria to check and score the range of available facilities. The higher the star rating, the more extensive the facilities provided.
A quality score is awarded for every aspect of the layout and design of the accommodation, the ease of use of all the appliances, the comfort of the beds, the range and quality of kitchen equipment and, most importantly, cleanliness.
The Gold award is only given to accommodation which excels in hospitality and service and has top quality scores for bedrooms, bathrooms and cleanliness. We are really proud that Sandbanks has been awarded Gold which rates it as amongst the ‘best of the best’.
A little bit of background about us – we have been holidaying in Padstow for more than 20 years, and decided that we wanted a place of our own here – so we became the happy owners of Sandbanks last summer.
This is our first holiday let and we were lucky enough to be able to take the existing fixtures and fittings with the property so that we could honour the bookings already made for autumn and the Christmas/New Year period. We then used the quiet time over the winter to completely redecorate and to replace any furniture and beds that were required, along with new crockery, glassware and kitchen equipment.
We have put our own style into Sandbanks with new colours, art and soft furnishings. We wanted to keep a neutral palette to keep the rooms feeling calm, spacious and airy – one of the main things (along with the view) that attracted us to Sandbanks in the first place.
Finding just the right colour is never a straightforward job though, with colours that look pretty similar on the paint chart being ‘too green’ or ‘too pink’ or ‘too much like magnolia’ when you get them on the wall. With the fact that paint changes colour depending on the time of day and lighting as well – it was a tough job, and I certainly know the drive to Homebase in Bodmin off by heart now.
But, with the help of some friends and a basket of tester pots, we painted a patchwork wall and sat around to contemplate the ’50 shades of beige’ as one of our party somewhat uncharitably dubbed it (Mrs. L!) until we agreed on the right look for Sandbanks. Thanks to the team for all the painting and decorating help!
With new paint, artwork, bedding, curtains and a full spring clean, Sandbanks is looking spick and span for the new season – and we have a photoshoot booked for April so that we can update the photos on the website and online.
Sandbanks wasn’t rated previously, so hopefully you can see why we are so pleased that all of our efforts and colour deliberation have paid off with our Gold Award, and hopefully you’ll be able to come down and see for yourselves. We still have a couple of weeks available in June/July – so please check our link to Harbour Holidays for dates and prices.
